Clay bricks are made of clay (including shale, coal gangue and other powders) as the main raw material, which are processed, shaped, dried and baked with clay. The content of al2o3 in bricks is generally more than 40%, and the content of fe2o3 is less than 2.0 to 2.5%. The clinker in the ingredients is 65-85%, and the combined clay is 35-15%. The pulverized bound clay and the finely ground clinker are mixed and ground, and then mixed with the granular clinker to make semi-dry mud, high pressure molding, and sintering at about 1400 ℃, with good performance. Clay bricks are weakly acidic at high temperature, and their ability to resist alkaline slag erosion is slightly worse, but increases with the increase of al2o3 content.

Composition and characteristics of clay bricks

Clay bricks are aluminum silicate refractory products with an alumina content of 30-40%. Its mineral composition is mullite (3AI12O3.2SIO2) 20%-50%, glass phase 25%-60% and cristobalite and quartz (the highest possible up to 30%). Ordinary clay bricks can be divided into: first class (>40%), second class (>35%), third class (>30%) according to the content of AI2O3, and the corresponding refractoriness is not lower than 1700℃, 1670℃ and 1610℃; The softening temperature under load is 1250-1420℃; the thermal stability is good. Generally used in the drying zone, preheating zone, decomposition zone and cooler of rotary kiln. In recent years, many countries have developed special clay bricks to increase their refractory temperature on the premise of maintaining resistance to alkali erosion.

Qualified blast furnace clay bricks are the phosphoric acid impregnated products after drying treatment, vacuum phosphoric acid impregnation and secondary low temperature firing, which are used to build the upper lining of the blast furnace body.

Clay bricks are made from local materials, are cheap, durable, and have the advantages of fire prevention, heat insulation, sound insulation, moisture absorption, etc., and are widely used in civil construction projects.

Waste and broken bricks can also be used as aggregates for concrete.
